Recently, I am building my first computer. I finally got all my parts in and have been assembling everything. After putting everything together, I hear 3 very faint short beeps at start-up and get no video. I am also not able to restart the computer unless I turn off the PSU. My mobo is a ASUS Micro ATX DDR3 2000 AMD AM3+ Motherboard M5A78L-M/USB3. Video card is Sapphire 270, PSU is a EVGA 600w, etc. Everything powers on (fans, light on mobo, etc) but getting no video. I tried using some old rams sticks I've had in my old computer. Took one out, swapped places, etc since I heard it might be a ram error, but nothing worked. Any thoughts?

Tried both and still same response. I even put in the old graphics card from my other computer (not sure what it is, might have been dedicated or something) and still got nothing. I put my old computer back together and at least got the screen to work until something about DISK BIOS fail, but I had a stick of ram in it and it worked. So I'm not sure if it is the RAM or not.

time the beeps .. if you get 3 consecutive beeps after 5 seconds then replace the ram if you get 3 beeps and then nothing after then remove the graphics card and try to boot from integrated graphics (onboard)

1 short: System boots successfully
2 short: CMOS setting error
1 long, 1 short: Memory or motherboard error
1 long, 2 short: Monitor or graphics card error
1 long, 3 short: Keyboard error
1 long, 9 short: BIOS ROM error
Continuous long beeps: Graphics card not inserted properly
Continuous short beeps: Power error

so if u are getting 3 short beeps then most probably its the ram .

I have actually determined the noise I was hearing is from my HDD. 3 Tickish like beeps when it gets powered on. It's a brand new HDD and I don't see how that would affect the video? I unplugged the sata cables and power cables and plugged them back in but still nothing.

unplug all peripherals except the keyboard and mouse and tell me whats the result of that .. it is definitely a failing hardware.. it could be that the hdd totalled the mobo thus preventing the functionality of the video port

Hey man, if the beeps are all the same length and all are short then you're looking at ram being potentially bad. If you just got the piece I'd suggest bringing it back in and telling them it's messed up and you want a replacement. Contact the manufacturer before you do anything to potentially break your warranty if you have one. If you don't have a warranty, but you just opened it still take it in and ask them to fix it.

In future note, those beeps are errors being processed during the post of the machine boot up and you can figure out what they are by simply looking up your make model and number of beeps+length of beeps (short or long) on google with your phone or some other device.

Just by googling "Post Error, 3 short beeps" on a device other than the one malfunctioning in the case of your video not working, and you can figure it out. Hope this helps, if not I'm sorry.

I'm actually just stupid. I was checking my SATA connections and noticed that my 4pin ATX jumper wasn't plugged in. Worked after a simple plugging in of that. Thanks anyways guys lol

Sincerely, a real noob.
