Hello everyone,

Now I wanted to know what graphics card I need to get for 1440p gaming.
I will be playing Battlefield 4 most, and Hardline when it comes out.
My friend and I built his PC together, and he has a 780 Ti Windforce GHz Edition.
I was going to get my PC very soon and I wanted to know if I should get what he got, or another card such as the Zotac AMP! 780 Ti or the Vapor-X 290X.

I will be getting the Asus ROG Swift monitor, and I really would like to see the frames that I am getting, as that monitor is 144Hz.
I will be playing the game at Medium or High settings, as my friend does (This is due to me not being able to see a noticeable difference between Medium and Ultra).

I am considering the 290X because it is much cheaper, and I would like to know whether I should get the AMD card and get the other parts I want or sacrifice on other parts and get a 780 Ti.

Other Information:

I may want to over clock the card
G-Sync is not too much of a big deal
I really do love GeForce Experience and ShadowPlay is epic, however, YouTube only allows 30fps and I believe now it does 60fps
I do own Fraps (I bought it) and when recording, I am fine as long as I am getting 60fps or higher, but I would like numbers above 100fps when not recording.

Thank You,
ProLeopard

If you're getting that monitor then you should be taking advantage of G-Sync and getting a nVidia card, pure and simple. Otherwise if you're getting an AMD card, why pay the premium for a G-Sync monitor you can't take advantage of? I would wait until next month, as it's speculated nVidia will be announcing GTX 880/980.

If you don't want G-sync then the RoG Swift monitor is very overpriced. Korean 100+ Hz 1440p IPS panels are about a third of the price and offer far better colours with slightly more input lag. But between the korean panel and a 1ms, 144hz panel I couldn't tell the difference (though your mileage may vary).

AMD cards now offer a similar tool to Shadowplay called DVR which uses onboard H264 coders like geforce cards. Just never ever ever use fraps ever again for recording. It is so outdated that it is a joke and needs to leave PC recording forever. MSI afterburner is free and has about 10x more features and options compared to fraps.

I currently use a 780 @1200 Mhz (quite a heavy overclock) and play BF4 at 1440p and around 100fps using a mix of ultra, high and medium settings. AA is set to Post low and SSAO is off.

Oh and I am nearly certain that the 290x is still a massive waste of money compared to it's little brother. It is often single digit frame rate increases compared to $100+ cost increase.

Secret Option: Get a cheaper 1440p monitor and get 2 R9 290s. The whole reason why the ROG monitor is so expensive is because of G-sync. A cheaper 1440p monitor and the 290s would give you 120fps no matter what with AA cranked all the way up

Remember he is not playing at ultra settings so his FPS will be way higher than 70.

Well I didn't see much of a difference with G-Sync, and I know exactly how it works I'm not really sure how much of a difference it makes. And I don't want to wait long, I'm trying to get it as fast as possible.

Also, I would get a different monitor but that one is the only monitor that is 1440p and 144hz.
That's what I want, and if there are any other monitors that are more than 100hz and 1440p or higher please inform me, I will get it

Thanks,

If you're ok with Korean monitors, Yamakasis are 120Hz 1440p and go for around $320 on Ebay. With the money you save over the ROG, you could afford 2 R9 290s and get 120fps at all times with every setting enabled and high AA

If I was the one buying the monitor, I definitely would get the two cards instead, but I am buying the computer components and the monitor is a gift from my dad. So, money for that is not as much of an issue.

For that Korean monitor, is it any good? Is it high quality? If It is I could pick it up very soon.

So, if you could advise me on the card that would be great.

Thanks,

The Yamakasi's are of exceptional quality. They are PLS (Korean version of IPS) 120Hz monitors and they go for unbeatable prices along with perfect-pixel guarantees. With that you can get 2 290s and play everything at 120fps

Alright, I'll check them out.
I do really love the RoG Swift though, a beautiful monitor.
How about the graphics cards?
The Vapor-X 290X is $520, the Zotac 780 Ti is $650, and the Windforce 780 Ti is $730.
What are your guys' thoughts on that?
Which card will be the most beneficial in terms of high FPS while playing at 1440p?

AMD has a slight edge over Nvidia at higher resolutions so go with the 290x

Wow! That's nice to hear...
So it would not be a bad idea to go with the 290X Vapor-X as my final card?
When I calculated the final price for my system, it totaled to $1,930.
There is a little bit more I have left to spend, so should I spend it on fans or invest in a graphics card that is marginally better?

Thanks,
ProLeopard

Haha I guess you could spend it on fans. The 780ti would only give you like 2-3 more fps and that isn't worth the $200 premium so there really isn't anything better to spend it on

Yeah, that's what I suspected...
My friend has that card and it is pretty amazing,
but he got a discount on his CPU at micro center and got some other parts
that are different from mine.

Thanks,
