Ok, so about a month ago i was having ongoing issues with my pc. Well I came to the conclusion that it was a gpu issue. I rma'd my 760oc and they sent me a card back, only for it to fail as well (wouldn't even boot). So, I have decided to upgrade my gpu and try out AMD. I just bought a stock r9 290 (yes, i know the temps are horrendous, but i got it for 300$ shipping/import fees included, compared to 500 not including shipping/import fees on newegg)

Anyways,my question is whether a 500w psu could support my system with the r9 290. Here are my specs:

GPU: saphire radeon r9 290
CPU: fx-8320 OC 4.2ghz
RAM: 2x4gb Hyper X blue 1600mhz
HDD: 500gb (not sure of brand, it's old)
Mobo: ASUS m5a97 r2.0
PSU: GS500w = its ranked as a tier 1 psu, so it is definitely reliable, I'm just not sure that the amps or wattage will support my build. What do you guys think ? .... I believe the 12v rail is 39amps, if that helps. Here is a link to the psu.

I doubt there'd be any risk. If the +12V rail gets overloaded, the PSU will simply fail to keep the voltage up and the PC will reboot, shut down, or the card will loose...

That PSU is a bit light for the 300W R9-290 (25A @ +12V). But it has a good strong 468W (39A) +12V rail. You might get by with using it. I would consider that my next upgrade though. The problem is the 125W processor too (10.5A @ +12V). You won't want to OC with that combination on that PSU.

Ah ok, I will definitely be upgrading (looking at a tx750w). I just thought I would get some opinions before dropping around 100$ on a new psu. ... If I didn't OC the cpu (3.5ghz) would it be able to run for a couple of days well ? or is that risky... ?

I doubt there'd be any risk. If the +12V rail gets overloaded, the PSU will simply fail to keep the voltage up and the PC will reboot, shut down, or the card will loose performance. If you don't have a ton of drives, fans, or lights in the system... it should be OK for non-OC use.
