Mobo beeping constantly on boot, one channel broken.

Hello. I just changed my motherboard, but I ran into a strange issue. I had a Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3, where my 2x4 Corsair Vengance LP RAM was working without problems. Now I replaced it with a similar Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H (OEM Windows still successfully activated :D), but on boot the mobo speaker was beeping constantly. I looked up the meaning, and it's the memory. I tried with one stick in the first slot, and it worked. Same with the other one. So my RAM is fine. Going with one in 2 and 4 each is also a no-go.

So are both 3 and 4 broken? Is that possible? I really don't want to replace the mobo with the old one, and then install a replacement in a few days. Could it be outdated drivers? And if I really can't fix it, would getting a 1x8 RAM be a huge performance loss from 2x4? I am using 1600MHz RAM.

Well, if you want to run with a broken motherboard and spend more money on working around that problem, I guess that's your choice. :)

The performance difference between 2x4 GB on dual channel and 1x8GB single channel will be minimal. Here's hoping your defect on the motherboard will not bite you in the butt on an 8GB DIMM stick. :)

I decided to RMA it and use my old one for a while. I just used the stock cooler because moving my huge aftermarket one is not fun at all.
Motherboard isn't something you replace often, and I really don't want to limit my possibilities when it comes to the new DDR-4. Most of them come in 4 stick bundles from what I've seen.
