Installation and recognition of the Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD went flawlessly. Windows 8.1 installed just fine. Clean install. Drivers installed cleanly. Using MB sound and video, for now. There are no other drives in the system.
But now, every third or fourth reboot, the POST won't even complete. The four motherboard fans start, and are at maximum speed, and stay there.
BIOS never displays.
Hard boot doesn't resolve the issue.
Turning off power doesn't resolve the issue.
Detaching the power cable completely doesn't resolve the issue.
However, pulling the data cable off the hard drive and starting the computer gets me into the BIOS.
And then turning off the computer and reattaching the data cable, the strangest thing happens. The drive is recognized, BIOS displays, and the computer boots just fine.
What is going on?
