I'm looking for new games to play. I got Minecraft, and it's fun to a degree, but a bit too open-ended for me. If there are free/cheap mods to get, I'm open to suggestions. My brother also recommended Skyrim, and I generally like that genre, but with my current mood it's also too open-ended for me right now, and I can't get into it. Too many possible quests, played for 2 hours and have like 15 optional quests already. Don't feel like reading a website full of info/guides for something that huge right now. Same goes for Fallout 3: enjoyed it, but it was so open-ended as I tried to do every little side quest that by the end I was a bit worn out from it.

I'm looking for something with a great story, but not something that is hugely open-ended. Most recently, Bioshock Infinite really hit the spot.

My PC basics: Pentium Dual Core E6500, 4 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 750 Ti

Games I really enjoy: Bioshock (esp. Infinite), XCOM series, Plants Vs. Zombies, Master of Orion series, Unreal Tournament (1999-2004), COD 1 and BF 1 (haven't played any of the newer ones), Diablo (2 more than 3), Civ 1 and 2, Medieval: Total War 1, Fallout 3, Deus Ex 1, Mechwarrior 1-4

Games I'm considering: Civ 4 or 5, Child of Light, new Tomb Raider, Child of Light, Mechwarrior Online. Also, any COD or BF game, but I'm at a loss for which one to pick.

Games that irked me: Arkham Asylum and Mass Effect 1 (odd camera angles, made more for console than PC controls). I realize the Mass Effect series has a great, long story, and I may try it again, but would have to start over because I hated sniper, need a spray gun with that odd camera work.

you can try the dragon age titles, there are some side quests and all you can do, but it's not as open as skyrim

I play BF4 myself and I will surely recomend that, but with your current PC you'll have to put the game setting on low/medium

you might like borderlands aswell, RPG meets FPS

Witcher Series (3 comes out in February)
Far Cry Series (I think 4 comes out in October)

My system is pretty similar to yours, but i've got an i3-4130, and I can run most of these high end games pretty well:

Tomb raider was fun. It's a well optimized game so you should be able to run it at ultra.

For great story lines I'd recommend the following games:
Alan Wake, Spec Ops: The Line, Metro: 2033 and Metro: Last Light, The Witcher 2
I also recently finished an indie game called To The Moon. Do not be put off by its graphics or gameplay, no joke, its story was one of the best I've ever experienced, it almost made me cry.

My recommendations for some casual, cheap/free games would be:
Path of Exile (similar to Diablo, IMO better), Battlefield 4, Planetside 2, Smite
