Hi all,
I'm thinking of upgrading my current rig, mainly to help with vid editing & rendering.
My current rig is
Fx 6300
Hyper 212 EVO
Asus M5A97 R2.0
16 Gb GSkill RIpjaws DDR3 1600
GTX 650 Ti boost SC
Kingston Hyper X 120Gb SSD (win 7)
2 Tb WD Black HDD
1 Tb WD Blue HDD
SeaSonic S12II 620W PSU
NZXT Source 210 case
6 case fans
I'm not a heavy gamer - I play some Tomb Raider, MW2, and WoW, and I'm happy with what I get from the rig. Any improvements in gaming would be a bonus but are not critical in my decision.
What I'm looking for is improved performance in vid editing and rendering with Sony Vegas 12. I have about $350 Canadian to spend right now, which is a rare window for me these days, so I decided to take advantage of that and do some upgrading.
Here are some things I was thinking...
The cheapest I could an 8320 or 8350 for, with taxes and delivery, is $190 and $220 CAD respectively. But how much benefit would I see with either? Enough to justify it?
I have also thought about switching over to Intel and getting an i5 or i7. Switching now and getting an i5 would be feasible - It'd be over my budget considering I'd need a mobo, but it would be doable over two months. I could get a 3570K or 4670K right now, with taxes and delivery, for about the same $285 CAD for either. Then pick up the board at the end of next month. But the question here is would the move from the fx 6300 to an i5 see enough benefit in vid rendering to justify the move? With the i5's lack of hyperthreading (like the i7) would it still significantly beat the fx 6300 in editing and rendering?
Upping to an i7 would break the bank just for the CPU and it'd be probably 3 months more to afford the mobo. Buying any i7 in Canad a right now would be just about or over $400 w taxes and delivery. So it'd break the bank plus would be two or three months to get a mobo.
I know that Vegas 12 takes advantage of CUDA's or Open CL, but not with my GPU - the GTX 650 Ti. In short, all Nvidia 6xx series cards with Kepler architecture are not CUDA supported by Vegas. This is well documented and long argued between nVidia and Sony. So short of also upgrading the GPU, my best option right now is to upgrade the CPU.
So the question in sum...
8320?
8350?
full switch to intel system - which would take an extra month even with an i5?
Thanks
