can a chipped cpu cause low performance in benchmarks?

Solution
I was really keen on you getting the RAM installed in Dual channel to make sure it wasn't the RAM that was holding your CPU back.

I still don't believe that the damage to the CPU you mentioned could alter the results. If anything sinister was done to your CPU it wouldn't have worked at all or would have blue screened you. If everything is working fine but your results are lower than anticipated there must be another reason behind it.

I'm at work at the moment so not on my PC but when I get home in the morning (it's 3 AM here) I'll install PC Mark 7 and see what results I get. (I know my CPU is different but they are more or less in the same category if such thing can exist. I'll submit my score and I'll try to think about the reason...

Hey,

your RAM is the likely problem not your CPU.

Memory 10,240 MB
Module 1 2,048 MB G.Skill DDR3 @ 667 MHz
Module 2 4,096 MB G.Skill DDR3 @ 800 MHz
Module 3 2,048 MB G.Skill DDR3 @ 800 MHz
Module 4 2,048 MB G.Skill DDR3 @ 800 MHz

What's with all the mix and match?

Probably in BIOS,

but that's not only it. They don't seem like matched pairs. Maybe Module 3 and 4 are, but the others.. Try removing the 2GB 667MHz stick and also the 4 GB stick leaving only the 2x 2GB 800 MHz sticks in. Take a look at the motherboard user guide and make sure the RAM sticks are in the proper position. For example for some motherboards you must have one stick in slot 1 and the second stick in slot 3, other motherboards you just have to have the first stick in slot 1 and the second stick in slot 2.

After removing the unmatched RAM as per above and making sure they are in the correct slots run the test again and see if the results are any better.

Hello again,

as I already said install only 2x2GB 800 MHz RAM sticks and try this way.

This below is extraction from your motherboard manual explaining exactly how Dual channel RAM works and how and and in what slots to install your memory.

2.3 Installation of Memory Modules (DIMM)

This motherboard provides four 240-pin DDR3 (Double Data Rate 3) DIMM slots,
and supports Dual Channel Memory Technology. For dual channel configuration,
you always need to install identical (the same brand, speed, size and chip-type) DDR3 DIMM pair in the slots. In other words, you have to install identical DDR3 DIMM pair in Dual Channel (DDR3_A1 and DDR3_B1; Black slots; see p.14 No.7) or identical DDR3 DIMM pair in Dual Channel (DDR3_A2 and DDR3_B2; Black slots; see p.14 No.8), so that Dual Channel Memory Technology can be activated.
This motherboard also allows you to install four DDR3 DIMMs for dual channel
configuration, and please install identical DDR3 DIMMs in all four slots. You may refer to the Dual Channel Memory Configuration Table below.

And this is something I added to look even simpler.

Sorry I can't help more at the moment. Hopefully someone else will come up with a suggestion.

Hey,

you are welcome.

I get annoyed when something isn't working properly so I imagine how you feel and was trying to help.

Now with the risk to create enemies on the forums (I hope not) my experience with Asrock motherboard in the past have made me steer clear of the brand. (I had a defective RAM slot which took me about 8 months to figure out) and even with the latest BIOS installed I had to spend nearly 4 hours making my CPU work (despite being on the Asrock list of supported CPUs).

I hope your RMA goins fast and you get a nice MoBo which hopefully solves the issues.

yeah we'll see i should be out of warranty. so i might not be able to rma.
i might just go intel. no point of buying a 990fx mobo
