I have an Asus notebook which suddenly started to give blank screen and the mouse pointer. When I press ctrl+alt+delete I see various options along with task manager but the pc apparently does not boot. Please help me to solve this nasty problem. I tried to press shift and f8 key repeatedly without any luck.

Force shut down and then it should work next time you boot up. Then go into the Control Panel and turn off hybrid shutdown in power settings.
