Hey Everyone,

I was wondering how well a Corsair Hydro Series H55 CPU Cooler would cool an i5-4690K running at 4.5-4.9 GHZ?

Thanks everyone!

Solution
Not as well as any of the low budget air coolers.

the $25 Hyper 212 outperforms the $65 H55 by a whopping 2.4C

The $65 Phanteks PH-TC14-PE beats the Hyper 212 by 7-10C
Probably not that well but it would depend on the chip. It wouldn't cool mine (though it is a 4670k) as it would be reaching for 1.3v whereas a friend of mine runs 4.4 at 1.2v and would easily fit into the h55's cooling range.

Honestly, for lower power chips air is much better, while water is better for small places and extreme chips. I couldn't see a 4690k needing more than 120w dissipation anyways so I would either go for a good air cooler or an high end water cooler.

H55 is just the worst of both worlds with it being rather loud and not cooling great. Air will be quieter but might not cool as good as water, good water will be louder (unless you go really high end or custom) but will cool well.

-There is not a single 120mm/140mm AIO made today that can get anywhere near the better air coolers.

-The Corsair H110 (1500 rpm) can equal the Noctua DH14 and almost catches the Phanteks while having comparable noise levels.

-The Corsair H100i at 60+ dbA (2700 rpm) is literally louder than my vacuum cleaner at 2700rpm fan speeds. It edges the Phanteks but at the point it reaches 55 % CPU load in the test below, I wanna leave the room. The Cryorig R1 Ultimate is in the same league thermally as the H100i

If you want an "All in One" (AIO) water cooler that:

1. kicks tail on every other AIO out there
2. does it 20+ dBA quieter than teh Corsair 100i and its 2700 rpm compatriots .... that's 1/4 as loud.
3. is all copper instead of aluminum.
4. is not a closed loop system, meaning later on your can cool your GPUs , MoBo , RAM etc.
5. has a powerful pump to support those extra water blocks ....
6. has great aesthetics
7. has outstanding reviews across the industry

well ya can't buy one .... well at least till August 31st when the Swiftech H220-X goes on sale (Well you can buy one today direct from Swiftech).....supposed to go on sale everywhere else Sunday

Going for a 280mm (2x140) AIO will maximize you cooling power. Putting silent fans on the h110i reduced to it pump noise for me. Albeit, it isn't quiet and I like wooshing noise. Makes me love my Giga 7970. it doesn't get loud, it just whooshes. :p

I can understand that move, makes good sense when ya bought it, but would ya do the same today ? .... $110 for the cooler + 2 x Noctua ($27 each) or 2 x Corsair SP's ($20 each) puts it at a higher cost then the 220-x ....a cooler which cools better has better materials and can be expanded to add GPU and MoBo cooling.

Today anyone can water cool:

MoBo - Asus Maximus VII Formula w/ built in MoBo Water Block

GFX - 2 x 780 Poseidon

CPU - Intel 4790k

Now buy the H220-X ($140), a 3 x 140 radiator ($85), 3 fans ($30) and a few feet of tubing / fittings and for < $275 extra you just completely water cooled an SLI system with CPU, 2 x GPU + MoBo water cooling.

True, the 220x sounds a lot more attractive. The 110 wasn't mine actually, I'm just the only one in my school that really work on computers. :p It's funny how I'll work on a $3000 gaming PC for a rich kid (not even with monitors and peripherals) and then run out of money on my machine. ;) It's respectable though. So many people play on pentiums with IGP and then complain about PC gaming. D:

We do a lotta builds here..... mostly colleagues, clients, kids friends .... rule is two choices

a) I build your 1st machine while you watch, I won't build ya 2nd.
b) You build it, I watch and make sure ya don't mess up.

I did a build last September for a kid ...21 years old, out in twin 770s if I recall correctly. Took 2 days to figure out what was wrong w/ it . Was getting CPU error LED but problem was dead GFX card. Other problem was USB cable to front case ports was damaged. he was anxious to take home and game so I let it go with the promise to drop off his receipts and hardware and i would return them for him, he said he'd take care of it. 11 months later and he's still got a $400 card sitting on his desk and a USB cable ..... seeing that $400 wasted when all the effort needed is to file an RMA is driving em batty.

Will deoend on what you are willing to spend.

$25 = Hyper 212 ....

$65 = Phanteks PH-TC14-PE ... 7 - 10C better than above

$100 = Corsair H110 / NZXT Kraken 61 .... noise and thermal performance comparable to above, don't really recommend it but if ya have ya heart dead set in getting a CLC for whatever reason (I can't think of one).

$140 = Swiftech H220-X .... Superior to all of the above and can be expanded to cool GPUs, MoBo whatever
