Help!!! Black screen only on laptop

Cant get my mom's laptop to work. You can power it up and log on....then poof the black screen hits and you cant do anything. Is there anything I can do to remedy this? Thanks in advance.

You need to get into your boot menu. Like i said each laptop is different try... (f10, Delete, Insert etc) It should say onscreen when you first boot up.

Is there a blinking "underscore" cursor in the top left of the screen? I'm assuming you can boot into the bootmgr (f10? depends on laptop) Run a harddrive disk check.

I recently had this issue and it ended up being a blow HDD.

Hi I tried getting to safe mode with shift F8 and that doesnt work. Thanks for replying.
