I have a fairly new CPU just over a year old an i5 4570. Am upgrading my system am getting an new motherboard and other stuff and I was wondering if it was worth it upgrading to a new i5 4690k /4670k ? Is there a significant performance difference ?

Solution
Overclocking is simple, There is guides everywhere specific to your board. It's almost impossible to break something if you aren't a complete goof :p Computer shuts itself down if there is heat issues etc. With some nice watercooling... You can get near stock temps with a ~1GHZ Overclock!

Yeah there is a notable difference and you will be able to overclock your CPU, if you got the i5 4690k you could get the performance of an i7 4770k with overclocking. If you do get i5 4690k you will need a Z97 motherboard. I would recommend the ASRocks Z97 Extreme4, a good motherboard for a decent price.
The best motherboard for gaming and overclocking would be the Asus Maximus Hero VII and it is future proof but it is costlier than the ASRocks but well worth the money.

The performance isn't significant but I don't think he has K version otherwise he might aswell upgrade, get i5 4690k, overclock that and keep it for 2-3 years.

I don't think it's worth the upgrade. Overclockin is quite more expensive and it doesn't make sense to do it just in order for the chip to "last longer"...
You should just keep your current chip until there is a real reason to upgrade, and at that time you can get what you want. That way you will ACTUALLY be making your CURRENT chip last longer with no performance hit.

At the moment, for gaming, there is no performance difference among those chips, and if there exists a difference (in rare cases), it would be smaller than 5%...

Yh my current I5 is not unlocked but am getting a z97 motherboard so I could get a K processor. However I have never overclocked any processor and was wondering if it was straightforward and low risk (assuming I have the right cooling of course)?
