Since no [strike]modern[/strike] graphics cards seem to work with a stock 300w PSU, I guess it's time to upgrade. I will also be upgrading my GPU.

Now, I am on a budget. So, the less money, the better. I'm really hoping for below $50. I dont need some high-tech liquid cooling, tri-fan, silent PSU. Just, something inexpensive :ange:
My specs:
Processor AMD Phenom(tm) 8750B Triple-Core Processor @ 2.4 GHz
Video Card ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics
Memory 5.9 GB
Hard Drive- 160GB SATA
PCIe x16
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1, 64-bit
CPU Model: HP dc5850 Mini-Tower

Any ideas? Thanks!

Have you looked at GeForce GTX 750 Ti or GTX 750 cards? Others have used these graphics cards with the 300W PSU in their HP consumer desktops and they worked fine.

If you get a GeForce GTX 750 Ti make sure that the specific model does not require a 6-pin PCI-E power connector.

Yes I have looked at these. But do you really recommend using a 400w or so GPU on a 300w PSU? I mean it might work, but eventually wont somethign just break or start smoking?

750ti is 60 watt GPU..at full load..at typical gaming, less than that..

well, it'll working flawlessly with your 300w psu..

It would work I suppose, but it is a little out of my price range for a GPU. However, there would be no need for a new PSU, but a new psu would be a nice upgrade..

So you know of anything cheaper? I was recommended to the R7 240, which seems pretty good to me
