So I have the z97x gaming 5 motherboard , my pc has sound on it when watching vids and doing other things . The other day i installed Skyrim and it was working perfectly fine WITH sound , now i just installed Metro Redux but it has no sound what so ever , although everything else is working fine . My guess is that it is most likely a software issue .

Additional info : In the game requirements it says :

Sound device: compatible with DirectX 9.0

Can that be the issue and if so , how do I know if my mother board built in sound is compatible with DX9 ?

DirectX is backwards compatible and chances are you're already running 11. To check this, hit your start button, type "dxdiag" in the search box and hit Enter. Should list your version on the System tab.

May want to see if there are patches available for the game.
