I have a Dynex internal card reader. When I insert an sd card, I cannot view the contents. When I enter Computer Management, the drive shows up, but shows up as unallocated space. I can't seem to do anything to any of my sd cards. There is currently photos on one of the cards. The rest can be freely formatted. But when i use my usb card reader, I don't have any problems at all viewing the contents and formatting. I am running Windows 8.1 Pro. Any ideas?

How old is the card reader. Older ones can't read the newer large format SD cards. If you are sure the reader can read large format [strike]drives[/strike] cards, delete the card reader entries from the device manager and then either reboot or tell the device manager to refresh. At this point the carder reader should be listed in the device manager. If at this point it's still not working, it's most likely dead.

You can get internal card readers pretty cheap these days.

I found the drivers, but I can't seem to get them to install. They're for Windows XP, which I'm guessing is my problem. I tried to run them in compatibility mode, but no go.
