Hello guys, first post so excuse any mistakes in format.

I'm new to actually building a rig, so I'm not certain which information is necessary to getting the help desired.

I just built a rig on the 12th of August,

Maximus VII Hero
i7 4790K
16GB Corsair Dominator @ 1866Mhz
Corsair H100i
Corsair AX 860 PSU
Samsung 840 Evo 250GB SSD (Boot)
Seagate 3TB HDD (Storage)

A couple of Cooler Master fans and of course as the title mentions, an Asus DirectCU II 780TI OC, running Win' 8.1.

My issue is that attempting to play graphically intensive games (e.g. Crysis 2, BF4 in particular) on max settings at 2560 x 1440 is causing my monitor to go into power save mode, implying that my video feed has cut out. Some times windows will boot back to the login screen, yet other times the sound stutters in and out and my machine does not reset it self, forcing me to hard boot.

Just today I found out this issue occurred attempting to run UDK (Unreal Development Kit), I'm unfamiliar with the software so I just tried loading up a map to edit with the default settings after installation and this immediately crashed the system, I say a glimpse of foliage and poof.

This post comes after roughly a week of reading these and other forms from users with similar problems with the card. I saw it could have been a power issue, which made sense because my first PSU was a refurbished AX 850 (their older model). So I replaced that along with resetting the H100i (I thought maybe also my temps were not normal ~37-40C on the CPU, idling ).

This little fix gave me false hope, because I was able to play BF4 15 or so minutes longer than the normal 3-4 crash time. I didn't fully stress this test though as later Crysis which had also shown improvement, later crashed.

What does seem to work is setting the filters to 1 notch below ultra, still at 2560x1440 on Crysis 2 or the other trouble games. I can play Infinite full blast no problem, weirder is Crysis 3 seems to work at full blast just fine (I only played the VR training for 20 min, so this could also be a false positive). But during my research, a bunch of sites were pushing this card at 4K full settings and not complaining about instability, obvious frame rate drop but playable, so I know I'm messing something up.

Event Viewer of course has a life time supply of the infamous "nvlddmkm" error. But since everything I read about that had some different variant from my own issue I didn't follow any of the supposed fixes. More recently I have a lot of ACPI error talking about the embedded controller not responding.

I humbly ask the community for any kind of help or advice, I'm a CS student and built this rig not just to play all the current games at Max but to run software like UDK and other developer suites without worry...not doing so well on that front. All my drivers are update, so is windows, bios is updated (not certain if I didn't mess this up, but system is stable out side of this issue)

Thank you to anyone that provides any help even a reference to further reading, I just wan't the $2,700 system to do what I built it to do.

follow up, just as with the games I am able to play around with UDK as long I chose the UE 3 maps to edit, but attempting to edit the supposed "Showcase, maps" (assuming these have everything turned on) crashes the system...

this has to be a driver issue right?

Hello & Apologies for the revival of this age old topic.

Basically, everything bitwhys detailed going on(or has gone on in the pass) with his system build, is currently effecting my system build. His system spec's are very much similar to my own minus the RAM, Motherboard, & HDD.

I don't know if bitwhys has ever solved his problem or why a solution to his topic problem hasn't been solved, which would help others such as myself with similar issues, but i'm asking for a experienced member of this community to please offer advise on the issue at hand. if they can :ouimaitre:
