Afternoon All,

Not been here for a while, but thought I’d post as the day is dragging and bored in work, so this is more of a discussion rather than literal process (but could be tempted either way mind)

Anyways, I’ll give you a bit of a run down, I do try to play the latest games @ ultra>high if possible, or my aim is at least:

My Spec’s
i7 930 @ 4.0ghz
ASUS P6X58D-E
Geil Black Dragon 6GB (2GBx3 Triple Channel)
Gigabyte 660Ti OC Windforce
XFX 850w Black Edition PSU (Non Modular)

Looking for a few bits of advice (Ive sort of know, but want a 2nd/3rd/4th etc opinion)

1 - Looking to purchase an 870/880 when they come out (depending on price is the higher I go in the series) would my CPU bottleneck these GPU’s (basing the 870 spec being similar to an 780) or am I good to go?
2 – has anyone had experience with Sli 660Ti (Gigabyte’s) and if so, any major problems/significant performance boosts? (Ie, 1x vs 2x gets minimal performance increase)
3 – Me old man as a Fatal1ty Z77 Performance Mobo lying around, would a i5-3570K or a i7-3770K (These overclocked to what would be the average these could be overclocked to, unsure) boost a decent performance upgrade from my i7 930? As in, literal 20/30 FPS difference?

Again, more of a thinking out loud scenario, but would be nice to actually know a bit more..

Post way!

Much Appreciated for any input

Reccy

No one really knows for sure whats going to happen when the 800 series come out, but as you said most people think it will be between a 780 ti and 780 but cheaper. In any case something should be getting a price drop so if you've already got a 660 ti it's worth waiting as you're not in dire straits. I don't think i'd bother upgrading the CPU just yet. I don't think the 930 will cause you too many headaches and i'd probably wait till Skylake comes out some time next year. Obviously if you notice a lot of bottlenecking than upgrade but you'll be buying a chip that is already 2 (soon to be 3) generations old and still cost the same as current gen.

1- I dont think its going to be worth to get any gtx 8xx when they come out, they will be VERY expensive.
2- No but i was going to do it so i researched a lot, and they scale very well, you get better performance than a gtx 770 in gaming! Tho IMHO if you could get a single card it would be better.
3 I dont think that you would win that amount of fps, but they are newer cpus and stronger.
Is that Performance mobo mATX by the way?
If i were you id get a i5 4690K, get a gtx 780/780ti if you can (880 will probably have only a 10-15% performance boost over gtx 780 but it wont worth the price). Id also get 8gig ram, 6 is still enough but 8gb its the sweet spot right now.

Rumour has it the 870 is a 780/780Ti and will be cheaper than the 7xx series were at launch

If its £300-£350 for a 880 than im game

Was just going to see if could get a Gigabyte 660Ti on the cheap 2nd hand for sub £100 if the performance was decent

No, full sized ATX board. Asrock Fatal1ty Z77 Performance

If i were you id get a i5 4690K, get a gtx 780/780ti if you can (880 will probably have only a 10-15% performance boost over gtx 780 but it wont worth the price). Id also get 8gig ram, 6 is still enough but 8gb its the sweet spot right now.
According to the CPU Support list from Asrock, the i5-3570K is the highest of the i5 range and the i7-3770K is the highest for the i7 range

If i was to go to this new board i would get a CPU, Aftermarket Cooler (Coolermaster no doubt) and 8gb Ram (2x 4GB Sticks)

My bad, forgot it was z77 chipset mobo. So if i were you id wait for the 800 series to come out and then you decide what to get :) And a 870 wont be as good as a 780ti i guess, only better than 780.
So wait for the prices, and meanwhile get that z77 performance mobo and get an i7 3770k or i5 3670k (if you are strictly gaming go i5, if you want to do render and streaming... i7)
If the 8xx series prices are very high, you can get another 660ti :) its a little better than my gtx 770 at gaming, almost as good as a 780, so it will be similar to gtx 870 performance.
Hope i helped

I think it will handle it fine, but you would be much better with ivy bridge (i7 3770K) and you already have a motherboard that supports it. After that you could get a nice cpu cooler or even water cooling and oc that 3770 to 4.7 or 4.8. That paired with a 870 or 880 would be an excellent system :)
