I'm new to building computers, so can somebody explain how I can monitor different temperatures within my pc, whether it be software or hardware, wired temperature readers, idk, but could some key please give me a well explained explanation! It would mean a lot, thanx

Solution
I recommend Core Temp for Intel CPUs. Typically you can monitor your GPU temperature from the GPU overclocking software that comes with your GPU.

Checking temps from BIOS is not typically a very good option, because your components won't run hot until you start using them for gaming etc.
You can monitor most of your temps from readings in your BIOS, but it's not always the most convenient method. The temps in BIOS will usually differ at least slightly from what you get from probes or software as Windows will not be running. With Windows running, there will be numerous background processes running and also there are numerous Windows power-saving features activated.

There are numerous programs that you can use within the Windows environment, HWMonitor being a popular one (linked below). These will give you all of your pertinent temps, as well as data on you clock speeds, voltages, etc.

You can also use thermal probes connected to an aftermarket fan controller or external digital thermometer. The advantage of these is you can place them wherever you want. Disadvantages are that they add extra cables in your case and in the case of your CPU, for example, they won't be in direct contact with the heatsink, so the readings can be attenuated and radically different from the sensors embedded in your mobo.

@rybo um yes that is software, but how does it work? Do you need to implant monitoring, like wiring for certain areas of my pc I want to monitor, or do those programs use stuff built into the mobo? And also how do pwm fans work? Can u use any mobo s software like asrock software? because I want to use a z97x

I have no temp probes in my case except for the NZXT sentry 2 probes, but those have nothing to do with speccy, speccy just gets the info somehow. :D Mine tells me the HDD, MOBO, gpu, and cpu temps.

Thank you for the info rybo! I will make sure to check out that program when I build my pc, but I would just like to know how it works, whether it reads it off the mobo, or what, idk! If someone can give me an explanation that would be great! Also, what is a good program if any, that I can monitor fan speeds, temps, and overclocks in one program compatible with any mobo, thanks guys!
