cannot crack the bootable USB code

I have tried and failed. I have read countless posts and continue to fail.

So...I have a Windows 7 iso image for a 64 bit machine.

I am sitting in front of a Windows 8 64 bit machine.

I want a bootable USB.

I have downloaded the win7 usb/dvd tool. running it on the windows 8 machine i still get the bootsect error.

all the manual processes using the command prompt are written as if you have an install DVD.

i know the answer is out there. please point me to it.

i tried the rufus tool at home on my 64 bit XP machine and it didn't work.

i have seen that in other posts. i will give it a try. can i run it from a 32 bit machine for a 64 bit iso?

issue is the windows 8 computer i was referring to is my work computer.

gotcha. i updated my original post. i don't know what i was thinking. i have xp 64 bit.

my computer actually recognized the usb on boot but said there was a "disk read error"

i am researching it now. i may not have the problem that i think i do
