Ok, i'm looking for your personal opinion on the best 1GB GPU. AMD or NVIDIA, doesn't matter. I just want to know what you think is the best. Must be 1GB. Thanks :D

Solution

i think your processor is pentium D dual core, not core2duo, since it listed in your motherboard cpu list..
and ddr1..just make it worse..

for $150, well, it's time to upgrade your system..

let's see this APU configuration..

CPU: AMD A6-6400K 3.9GHz Dual-Core Processor ($58.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI A55M-E33 Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard ($39.67 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($43.20 @ Newegg)
Total: $141.86

less than your max budget, but give you huge performance leap in processing power, memory transfer, also a graphic muscle..
even using integrated...

I like my 7790 for $110 with 3 games before Christmas last year, but the 7850 is certainly faster!

I have a 512mb video card right now. I don't want 2 GB because it's not worth it for the computer. I'm not building a new one, i'm just upgrading the old one for as low cost as possible. i'm only getting a newer GPU and i'll build a whole new pc when the time comes

This and the GTX 570 1gb model

BUT a 2gb GPU doesnt have to be super expensive, you'd probably get a better deal not limiting yourself to 1gb.

something like a 260x 2gb could work in your PC and not bottleneck a new PC later on.

If the computer you are buying the card for is the one listed in your specs, you will be heavily bottlenecked by your CPU. So it may be a good idea to look for something that will match up good and not cost you a fortune. You actually should be looking at very low end cards honestly if this is the case.

well, he said..

I understand that, but he will also most likely need a new power supply as well to run a HD 7850. You do realize he's talking about pairing it with a single core sempron at only 2ghz right? Why buy a 1gb card if he is planning to use it in his new computer next year. He may as well get a 2gb or higher if that's his plan. I just don't want to see him waste money honestly for performance he may or may not ever get to see.

how do you now his current processor is sempron with exact 2ghz clock speed..? :ouch:

well, he's ask the best, then we give the best..

but yes, 7850 will need a decent psu..that's means new psu for him..and this one causing more budget..

i think it's better buying a strong gpu (and also decent psu) right now, rather than buy a $30-$40 weak card, and at the time comes, he need to buy a gpu once more again..

Hover over his profile pic to see his member configuration. That's where I'm getting his specs from. ;) He also mentioned that his board was only PCIe 1.1 so that also told me a lot. ;)

I agree with you on this, and that is why I questioned about why a 1gb card. If he wants to use it in his new computer next year, he may as well get a 2gb card and a new PSU. If he won't be using the card in the computer next year, then it is a waste of money to buy an expensive video card and PSU to run on his specs. Do you get what I have been saying now?

Edit: The first post was supposed to be included in this message, lol. I had two different windows open responding to the same thread. :p

so the question is..
when op will upgrade whole of his system..?

if less than 6 months, get a strong gpu and decent PSU too right now..if more than that, well, get a weak card, or even it's better not to upgrade it at all..:D

I should clear things up... i may already be late doing that lol. Yes i'm running a sempron 3400+ 2ghz. But the computer i'm talking about is the core 2 duo. It's supposed to be a (very slight) upgrade to the sempron 3400+. But it needs a GPU. I have a sapphire radeon x1650 pro right now, but it's AGP and the duo's mobo is PCI or PCIE X16. So i need a card that fits the mobo and IF POSSIBLE is an improvement to the x1650 pro. THE END

Only problem is that he said he will be using the computer for years to come. By that time the 260x will be pretty irrelevant again, so it's probably a good idea to just get something that won't bottleneck to bad with his current CPU for now. I would say a r7 250 would probably be best for his older core2. It would match decent enough to the CPU and won't cost all that much. He can worry about something better when he does his upgrade a few years down the road IMO.
