Monitor intermitently losing signal

Hello all,

I'm having a problem with (what I suspect) is my GPU. My monitor keeps losing the signal, which does not come back until I hard restart the desktop by holding the power button. I've found no way to bring the image back short of this fix. I've waited for an hour with the signal not re-appearing. The sides of my case are clear, and even once the monitor reports “no signal”, the video card does appear to still be functioning since I can see the fan is still spinning as it should be. I'm not sure how to tell if the GPU is getting sufficient power to keep functioning, but that could also be the culprit. The only other desktop in my house has a PSU that is not powerful enough to run my graphics card, so I unfortunately can't swap out to test that way. I also don't have another video card that could be substituted, so I'm forced to go through the tedious troubleshooting process. I've reseated the card, tried a different port, tried VGA and HDMI connections on two different monitors, checked all power connections, cleanly re-installed drivers, and made sure all case fans were working to no avail. The issue is still happening.

Logs:
GPU-Z, CPU-Z, and HW Monitor don't report any alarmingly high temperatures: the GPU usually peaks around 55 – 65º Celsius while playing games. Idle temps don't go above 33º Celsius. CPU temps also never seem to break about 42º Celsius.
FurMark stress test: 15 minutes, 1920x1080 at 4x MSAA, GPU temps hover around 81º Celsius but signal remains stable.
Prime95 gives no errors.
Swapping cords/monitors doesn't change anything.

Re-creating:
This only started occurring recently, though I can't pinpoint exactly what might have changed to cause it. I built this computer at the beginning of January this year, so I'm hoping parts aren't already wearing out. Hardware/specs are below.
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760
CPU: Intel Core i5-3330 @ 3.00 Ghz
Memory: 16 GB RAM DDR3
Mobo: ASRock H77m
Monitor: ViewSonic VA2342 1920x1080
OS: Windows 7 Professional

It seems to occur when playing games, though it doesn't seem to be a matter of time and doesn't happen with all games, oddly enough. I can't pinpoint a specific time that triggers it nor anything in the games that could be a problem. All of the ones that work run at the highest max resolutions.

Any and all pointers will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

Doing the hard reset/poweroff is not good for your drives. I suggest you memorize the keybd strokes needed to poweroff and try that first.

Also when this happens, odes your monitor say no signal or anything similar like it would if the cable was unplugged? If not try pressing the menu or OSD button on the monitor. If that doesnt bring up your menu then you might have a monitor issue.

Hi popatim, thanks for the response and advice. I've memorized the keystrokes, but I think I may have found the solution. The power strip I'd been using for the tower was somewhat old, and I swapped it with a newer one. So far, no crashes. I'm a little embarassed I didn't try that originally, but this may have fixed it.

Anyway, I'm not going to mark this solved quite yet, but will check back in a day or two to confirm that it's been fixed! Thanks again.
