It probably means that you are too far from the router, not that you need a new router.
What speed do you get if right next to it? What do you get if connected via ethernet cable?

As stated other factors may be your issue.

Now often the modem/routers yoru ISP provides are low end routers. If you are going to buy a new modem and router buy seperate ones, most combo devicves are not that good of either one. A good modem is the Zoom 5341J, the J is very important since you have a 70mbps connection. As far as router that entirely depends on what your needs are.

I have heard to get one of each instead of a combo, but I have been looking into getting the nether 450 combo. Reviews say that it does get 50mbs. An Thats mainly what I want

If you are getting only the 25mbps download speed from speedtest.netusing wired or being right in the same room of the router then yes you are correct in that the router is holding you back.

If you are geting the 25mb download speed 2-3 rooms away then the problem is that you need a stronger wifi signal and just replacing it for an equivilant router wont do anything. The 300 or 450 mbps number on the router is a perfect in the lab number that is not reality. If it is the case where you are getting low speeds a few rooms away what you need is either a high power router or even better to put an access point in another part of your house with the comcast modem/router to increase your wifi coverage. Also if your laptop is old and using the old wireless G or single channel wireless N then the laptop wifi card could hold you back from ever getting 70mbps on it.
I put this card in mine and my wifes laptop and works pretty good: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-6235AN-HMWWB-Centrino-Advanced-N-Bluetooth/dp/B007QXLIWI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409237501&sr=8-1&keywords=intel+6325

Why dont you tell us your exact scenareo including locations of everything and we can give you the best advice.

(What I don't like about that SmallNetBuilder chart is the dearth of info about the Adapter being used. Oh wait. There can only be ONE adapter at that ac1900 rates... Which is Thing 2 I don't like about ac1900s...)

Kane, it is. I just don't like the AC1900's dearth of adapters.

Are you to blame for this? I'm looking for the one person who's held all these adapters up. Someone's to blame! Is that you? (Gee, it'd be great if true - that way all of our abuse could finally find the right target!)
