Is this a desktop or laptop?
If it is a desktop you can install an aftermarket sound card.

or if the source you are trying to connect to has hdmi you can use hdmi and have the audio go through it.

Asus does not make a G31D-M7 board, biostar does.
If your PC does not physically have the port, changing files is not going to magically create a port on your pc. You need to get a aftermarket pci or pci-e sound card from soundblaster or one of the other vendors if you want spdif out.

Ok, then the only ports that motherboard has is the normal 3.5mm ports on it.
No file or setting changes will make a port grow onto your board out of thin air.
You can get an addon card like this one:
