I really suggest getting this combo. The i5 is very good for anything you please. Whether it be gaming or word docs.. You could get an i3 if you wanted to save money. Look at the comparison here: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4440-vs-Intel-Core-i3-4150
Feel free to ask questions! :)

I'm an intel advocate but maybe they would be better with an fx6 or fx 8

I agree with going with an fx 8xxx. Here's what I would recommend:

On your budget we asumed you wanted to save money. Also the fx 6300 8320/8350 are all easily overclockable thus being able to adapt to next- gen titles. Also for gaming multithreded activities you will get a better performance. In reality for single core apps the speed will be the same. Also I am not sure of the conversion rate but if you need a new mobo with this cpu you can't afford a mobo.

He never said this build was go gaming.

I was only saying that through the many applications out there world of tanks is the only one that sprung to mind that will only be using one core. If he wants it for word processing a celeron would do and he would most likely be aware of that.
