Hi all. I built my first computer somewhat recently and lately I've had some problems with random shutdowns during gaming that I think were caused by my RAM. I downloaded memtest and dissapointingly immediately got two errors. For the sake of depleting free options before doing an RMA or anything I went into BIOS and saw that my ram (1 stick of 8GB Kingston HyperX Fury) was set to a frequency of 1866mhz so I changed it to the originally advertised 1600mhz, as the ram, or my motherboard (MSI 990FXA-gd65), I forget, has an automatic overclocking feature. Since then, I have been running 7 memtests, each of them testing 1024Mb for over 25 hours without error. Should I continue testing for faulty RAM or assume that the problem has been fixed by changing the frequency? I have yet to experience another random shutdown under load or while gaming.

if u are facing immediate shutdown under load while gaming then i strongly this its the psu....
so what psu and GPU do u have ??plus have u overclocked your CPU or GPU ?

It's not immediate shutdown whenever I game or anything, it's happened hours in. The PSU seems a likely candidate as it's a crappy Raidmax RS-630SS (It came with the DIY bundle unfortunately). My Gpu is an XFX R9 270x, and my core is an FX8350. I believe that the motherboard slightly overclocks the core if I remember correctly.

so check your temps both from gpu and cpu if its happening after a long time of use then overheating may be an issue.

For something to monitor temps,

Download the next program,

http://www.hwinfo.com/download32.html

open hwinfo32,after that open the sensor window by marking sensors=V,after that click run

So after many hours of mem testing and no crash in a few weeks it seems changing the frequency of the RAM back tot he advertised 1600mHz did it.
