I have done some research but am asking this question to put the topic to rest. I bought the title ram and tried to boot my pc with my previous 2x2gb ddr2 g-skill alongside. (Dual Channel). Got the memory error boot beeping so removed the ddr2 and tried with the ddr3 only, didnt boot, then tried ddr2 and was back to normal.

Questions are:
1)is the ram compatible with the mobo and q6600 @2.4ghz
2)can i run all 4 slots together in theory with ddr2/ddr3?
3) Have i exceeded my ram limit? Total would be 12gb (mixed 2x4gb ddr3 and 2x2gb ddr2)

Any and all answers would be appreciated. PSU has plenty grunt, 750watts.

No you can't mix DDR2 and DDR3 - 1333 is the max for your mobo and that will reuire an OC of the FSB on the mobo, best bet get 2x4GB of 1066 and a good cooler for your CPU if you don't have one, then OC the Q6600, those are native 2.4GHz and I've still got a number of them out running at 3.6-4 GHz, prob one of the best CPUs ever

No it will not take 1600MHz RAM

Your motherboard supports DDR3 1333(IF OVERCLOCKED)/1066/800 MHz memory modules

The default FSB of a Q6600 is 266MHz (1066FSB quad-pumped), so running the RAM on the highest available DRAM multiplier (x 4.00 on the 266 MCH strap, which also happens to be the max. available multiplier for both the 200 and 333 NB straps), which equates to a 1:2 FSB : DRAM ratio, the resulting DRAM frequency would be DDR3-1066 (533MHz). So in order to run an effective DDR3-1333, you would need to increase the FSB to 333MHz (333 x 9 = 3.0GHz), resulting in the same FSB : DRAM ratio of 1:2.

About RAM limit
DDR3:
2 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory (Note 1)
Dual channel memory architecture
Support for DDR3 1333(O.C.)/1066/800 MHz memory modules
DDR2:
2 x 1.8V DDR2 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory (Note 1)
Dual channel memory architecture
Support for DDR2 1066(O.C.)/800/667 MHz memory modules

(Note: Mixed mode, populating DDR2 and DDR3 memory modules simulta- neously is not supported. Go to GIGABYTE's website for the latest supported memory speeds and memory modules.)

My suggestion if you don't know anything about overclocking get 2x4GB1066MHz DDR3 modules KIT!!!!! (if you want RAM so bad)

My better suggestion: save money for new computer
