Since I got my computer I have always had it plugged in and wired to my router, although this is no longer possible. As my motherboard does not have a build in wireless connector I recently purchased the Asus PCE-N10. On a wired connection I get and average of 50mb down and 5mb up, after I installed this card and ran the test I was getting under 10% of that with a download speed of around 5mb and an upload under 1mb. Is there any reason for this, the adapter had decent reviews, it just seems such a drastic drop.

Solution
Try pulling your tower out and setting it on top of the desk and turning it on; i want to see if there is just too much in its path.
If it still that bad then it would seem to have to be just a dud wifi card.

If you have to return the wifi card I would suggest getting a powerline adapter over wifi.
What adapter did you buy? USB adapters are not good at all, while the pci-e versions are decent.
You will never get equal performance via wireless as you will with wired. Even using the most high end 802.11AC router with 1.3gbps on the 5ghz band you will still in the real world be slower then a wired connection.

This is the one I bought I understand they will never be the same as a wired connection but when comparing it to my tablet which is wireless the speeds are so much worse!

The tests I ran on my tablet were in the same room as my PC, my mouse and keyboard are both wired the only thing I have around my PC is my phone and tablet but I don't have the internet turned on on them so I don't see how they would interfere.

After your comment I decided to move my PC into my lounge (right next to my router) and guess what the speeds are great! It looks like its a range issue as you said, is their anyway to get a router with a better range or extended my current ones? I currently have a Virgin Super Hub 2
