I decided to upgrade my old FX-4100 to an FX-6300 and when I boot up the computer it runs fine for a little while before freezing and forcing me to restart. I've already tried resetting CMOs, reinstalled all my motherboard's drivers/chipset and I've checked my BIOS to make sure I didn't miss an update. Putting my old CPU back works fine. I haven't tried reinstalling the OS yet, is that necessary when your installing a CPU with different architecture?

Extra Info:

Motherboard is an M5A78L-M LX3 and the cpu is running with a Hyper 212 aftermarket cooler (I had this on my old CPU and it ran fine)

-Operating system is 64 bit windows 7

Everything is possible, though it wouldn't be my first guess. You can try reinstalling the Windows if you think it's a software issue. Have you already ruled out the possibility of overheating? What temperatures are you getting under full load of all cores?

Only about 15 degrees for CPU, and my motherboard actually has some really strange temperatures. According to HWmonitor tmpin 0 and 1 are 30 degrees, and TMpin 2 says 128. I double checked that with PC probe and it said my motherboard was at 34 degrees.
