I decided to upgrade my old FX-4100 to an FX-6300 and when I boot up the computer it runs fine for a little while before freezing and forcing me to restart. I've already tried resetting CMOs, reinstalled all my motherboard's drivers/chipset and I've checked my BIOS to make sure I didn't miss an update. Putting my old CPU back works fine. I haven't tried reinstalling the OS yet, is that necessary when your installing a CPU with different architecture?

Extra Info:

Motherboard is an M5A78L-M LX3 and the cpu is running with a Hyper 212 aftermarket cooler (I had this on my old CPU and it ran fine)

-Operating system is 64 bit windows 7

Only about 15 degrees for CPU, and my motherboard actually has some really strange temperatures. According to HWmonitor tmpin 0 and 1 are 30 degrees, and TMpin 2 says 128. I double checked that with PC probe and it said my motherboard was at 34 degrees.

Those reading are in idle or under load? What happens if you run a proper benchmark?

Those are idle temps. Haven't tried running a benchmark yet

Everything runs fine in safe mode, and I can run normal windows for about 10-15 minutes before it freezes. Could that maybe point to a driver issue?

Everything is possible, though it wouldn't be my first guess. You can try reinstalling the Windows if you think it's a software issue. Have you already ruled out the possibility of overheating? What temperatures are you getting under full load of all cores?

Fixed it. I thought I'd checked the video card drivers already but it turns out I hadn't... :p
