computer constantly disconnecting from internet

Hi,

I am having connection problems with my Msi gt60. What is happening is that the internet and for me (steam) go offline for a short period of time and then comeback but go offline again. Sometimes restarting my pc helps but only for a short period of time. I've had the computer for a little over a year. When it goes offline the computer still shows full connection bars though. Another thing I've noticed recently is that using the internet almost always causes it to disconnect. I think it is something with my pc because I have had this problem at multiple places. I have tried updating drivers but the comp says they're all up to date. This is an extremely frustrating issue . Please help!!

This problem could be any of a number of issues, which will need to be isolated. Start with rebooting the modem, router and notebook and see if the problem persists. If it does, try using the computer plugged into the modem directly via an Ethernet wire. If the problem persists, the issue is the modem or the ISP so call them because they have to fix that. If the modem is ok, next I would try connecting to the router with another device and seeing if the connection is stable. Also, try taking the notebook to another place with a wifi signal and determine if the connection is stable or not.

This will allow you to determine if the problem is the modem, the router, or the notebook.
