Is 1.45 Volts on A FX 8320 Safe?

Hi, i recently overclocked my 8320 to 4.2GHz, i left the voltage on auto, before the overclock i would see a max of 1.412Volts, but thats when it would turbo to 4GHz at load it would be 1.386Volts but it wouldnt turbo when stress testing. It would idle on 0.948 Volts at 1.4GHz. Now at the 4.2GHz OC it idles at 1.414Volts and at load 1.454Volts, i think it may be overvolted by quite a bit, but whats odd is the tempratures, before the overclock it would idle on 30c and at load using aida64 41c. Now it idles at 31c-34c and at full load using aida64 the maxium temprature i observed was 46c.

This is what i dont understand, i thought 1.45 was high and dangerous but the temps dont reflect that? i just want to know if it is safe to be idling on such high voltages, will it damage the cpu? and another question is: how do i get my cpu to throttle all the way down to 1.4GHz with only 0.948 Volts when idle? i have tried setting the CPU load line calibration to regular, it idled at 1.39 Volts but it didnt throttle the clock speed, i have tried C1E, HPC, APM etc nothing!

Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi, what cooler do you have? The temperatures seem weird, the readings are probably incorrect. Try other software for reading them. You can also feel the cpu cooler to get an idea of how hot it gets. Whether the voltage on the cpu is safe or not (as a rule of thumb, if you manage to cool the processor on air, it's probably not that bad, even if not ideal), it should go lower. Just test to find the lowest voltage where the system is still stable.
I would just avoid the automatic overclocking. It uses high voltage and the results usually suck anyway.

I use a Hyper 212 evo with 2 Noctua NF-F12s running push/pull, and i did check twice on another piece of software, i used CPUID HWMonitor and AI Suite 2 both read exactly the same readings?? anyways thanks for your response, when i manually change the voltage it dosnt seem to effect it it, my board just seems to override my inputs and overvolts without my permission. BUT! what is even weirder! is when stress testing, the voltage lowers to 1.36 to 1.38 volts???? but idles on anywhere between 1.414 to 1.458??? im so confused haha

Ok, I guess I didn't understand your first post. The temperature readings should be ok, that's a decent cooling and if the cpu's actually running on 1.38 under load... just feel the cooler if you have doubts, but it should be ok. As for the voltage settings. Are you doing the changes in BIOS? I suggest that you just follow the first comprehensible guide on overclocking vishera cpus that you find online and come back if you still have some problem. From your posts it's not really clear what settings you are changing and where, so it's difficult to give advice. And everything has probably already been written in those guides :).

i only changed the cpu ratio and the voltage, i managed to get a stable overclock of 4.2ghz at 1.392Volts, but it still overdraws to 1.428 when stress testing. it stays at a solid 1.392 when idle, which iam unhappy about because before the overclock it was throttlimg to save power when idle, i checked every setting before i overclocked to see what would change after i OCd, nothing changed, yet it wont throttle down on idle. right now its at 1.392 volts at 31c, i am concerned about the power consumption, is 1.392 volts gonna impact my power bill?
