The other day I re-seated my ram because it wan not showing up in the bios or the system properties (4gbs showing for 16gb Corsair Dominator ram) but after i re-seated it the monitor would not boot after I turned on the PC. After that I've tried to re-seating the graphics card, taken the ram out and tried to boot it but to no avail.
My Rig:

Cpu: i7 930 running at 2.80 GHZ
GPU: Nvidia GTX 580 phantom edition
Ram: listed above
MOBO: ASUS ROG (I forgot the rest)
PSU: 900w Corsair psu

Maximus is Dual Channel/4 DIMMs - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VII_FORMULA/specifications/

so you can use 2 x 4gb, 2 x 8gb, 4 x 4gb or 4 x 8gb - KITS.

Not 3 x 6gb (not that they make 6 gb anyway)

I recommend 2 x 4gb. Put in the correct dimm slots per your mobo manual.
