IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ AND YOU THINK YOU KNOW THE ANSWER RIGHT AWAY:
I had a power supply that powered a micro atx mobo, can it power my new Asus M5a99fx Pro R2.0?

Okay, so i've been doing a pretty big upgrade today, my Rosewill Challenger just came in the mail, so i've been spending the entire evening re-building my new PC (first full rebuild). Got everything squared away, except one thing. ONE THING. These connections. So a little back story; i had an Asus Essentio CG1330 Desktop, the premade kind, yakno? So i'm using the stock power supply which is a 400w peak power supply. The only thing that frightens me, is that the connections that gave power (i assume) to the mobo (i don't know as much about computers as i should) was a 4-pin connection, but there is also a 6-pin connection. The only thing i can find on my new mobo is an 8 pin! The male 4-pin and 6-pin connection can fit inside the female, but doesn't obviously fill all of the holes (this is not meant to be a joke, i apologize). So is the power supply not able to power this mobo? Ill be providing pictures to show what i mean.

I doubt you fried it but just instead use an anti-static wrist strap or touch the steel case every minute or so to discharge static. Relate rubber gloves to how balloons cause static when you rub them on your hair.

I highly doubt you fried anything, highly doubt. Anyways, buy a 4-pin to 8-pin adapter for powering the CPU.

Edit: this is for the CPU power, right?

Why no rubber gloves?

Well, the motherboard and CPU are already in, i guess all i can do now is pray that it didn't fry it. Would there be any way to check without the PSU if it's dead?

Is there a way to run the system by plugging the 4pin in the 8pin or would that just be stupid?

Yes, i just read on another site that connecting the 4pins in a certain side of the 8pin connection can work perfectly fine. I'd like to try this just to make sure i've got this running and working properly. Can i have some confirmation / comfort on this? And would you happen to know which side i plug it into?
