I haven't even used my build in a few months, I was trying to run my 290 on a 450W SFX power supply because I did an ITX build inside a Raven Z RVZ01 case. Turns out 450W wasn't enough to run it. Now that their 600W PSU has come out, I got it today, plugged it in and updated all my drivers. I get into BF4 and am getting terrible FPS. I noticed my core clock is dipping and I'm sitting at 72C so I set a high fan profile to help cool it a bit but I still get bad FPS in BF4.

Now after a reboot I'm sitting at 45C idle which seems pretty high to me since the cards in the reviews sit at 32C idle. What's going on? I haven't used the card in months and I have CM Jetflo fans inside my case blowing air into it.

What's the 600w psu specifically? What's your CPU?

What kind of fps are you getting?, do a complete graphics card driver reinstall using Display Driver Uninstaller.

Next run these two installers for either 64(x64) or 32(x86) bit, they should be located here

C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4\__Installer\vc\vc2012Update3\redist\vcredist_x86.exe (or x64 for 64bit)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4\__Installer\directx\redist\DXSETUP.EXE

These update your c++ and directx as EA seems to have overlooked installing these.

I'm getting around 40 with dips on low. I did use display driver uninstaller, thanks for the DXSetup tip though I'll try that out, I just freshly redownloaded BF4.

Run unigine valley (Extreme hd preset) see what fps you get, should be around 50-60 with your config.

Drivers have known to be iffy with the r9 cards, I had to uninstall and reinstall mine a couple of times before the correct version showed.

Would get definitely try reinstalling the gpu drivers again if you valley score is not above 50.

For comparison I get around 80-120 on BF4 (ultra) with r9 290 and amd fx 8350 using mantle api, with some dips to around 60-70 on certain maps/scenarios.

Wouldn't worry about the idle temps either, as long as it's good under load, they usually test them in open air test bed's so it's not really comparable to being in a case,

amd rate the card to 95c but I like to keep below 85c, without overclocking mine peaks at around 79c (msi gaming 290).

I just ran the Valley benchmark and came out with an overall score of:
FPS: 41.0
Score: 1715
Min FPS: 11.8
Max FPS: 66.9

This is running the latest beta drivers (14.7 rc3) on factory clocks (1000/1300)
I was hitting about 80C

Edit: I just logged a quick BF4 session with Afterburner running DirectX and one thing I noticed is that my GPU usage never went over 80% while my CPU usage was in the high 90s almost the entire time.

Another Edit: I reverted to 14.4 drivers and had the same issue. How could my 3570k be getting maxed out so easily? I remember back in January being able to run ultra and even some resolution scaling on my setup. My chip isn't overclocked at the moment but still this is horrendous performance. I've also already unparked my cores.

Temps are fine, that score is low in valley, we need to see where you are dropping the performance.

Can you run this http://www.passmark.com/products/pt.htm

here are my scores with my 290 at the same clocks.

We have different cpu's (I have amd 8350 @ 4.4 ghz) but you can see where you are loosing your performance.

My Results @ 1000/1300

Passmark overall rating 3017.0
Cpu mark 10061
2d Graphics mark 614
3D Graphics mark 6735
memory mark 1456 (8gb 1600 ddr3)
Disc mark 1348 (7200 hdd)
