How to optimize a router for gaming?

As the title says I'm wondering what settings I need to change because whenever I play on my PS3 I always get a horrible connection and super lag. ( My modem is a Motorola Surfboard SB6141 and my router is a Netgear Night Hawk X6 R8000 and yes my ps3 is wired. Also IDK if I have to set my PS3's network settings either.)

The sad thing is all the youtube tutorials and forums shows people having over 45 mbps. for download and more than 30 mbps. for upload with just a normal setup.

The ps3 connection test is very inaccurate and I wouldn't count on it. It makes you believe that you maybe slightly off but really its horrible.

Maybe your right but I also notice that games that show your connection status it always says my connection is at zero while it shows other people having it 100%. IDK maybe this is useless trying to figure this out.

TRy enabling DMZ on and see if that helps.

I tried taht about 10 minutes ago and my connection got worse.
