I have a AMD FX-6300 in my computer. Now I am building a computer for my little brother with the FX-4300. I found some threads that say the FX-4300 performs better than the FX-6300 in gaming. Is this true?

not really. It has a higher base clock fx4300 - 3800mhz/turbo 4000mhz vs fx6300 - 3500mhz/turbo 4100mhz so for some games that dont take advantage of the extra cores the 6300 has to offer, then it may be a tad faster. But for the many games that can take advantage of the 6300's extra cores (such as bf4), it will be a good amount faster than the 4300.
But hey, why just not look at some reviews for yourself....
heres one comparing the two

Not entirely true. The FX-6300 is the better processor since it has 2 extra cores and some games run more than 4 threads.

The FX-4300 may have a higher stock speed than the FX-6300, but the FX-6300 turbo is .1GHz faster. FX processors have unlocked multipliers so you should be overclocking them (if you want to run them at their full potential); not keeping them at stock speeds.
