Hi! Looking for some advice in building a new PC for a friend for medium level gaming on a budget. Specifically the Sims 4 as the highest priority!

-------------------------------------------------------------
Approximate Purchase Date: 1 week from now

Budget Range: ~$700-800 Australian, including monitor, though the cheaper the better!

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming (being built for sims 4 release) , surfing the net, watching movies

Are you buying a monitor: Yes

Parts to Upgrade: Completely new build

Do you need to buy OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf

Location: Sydney, Australia

Parts Preferences: Not too bothered, slight preference for intel CPU

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: Would like to get 1920x1080

Additional Comments: This is being built to coincide with the release of The Sims 4, just looking for something as cheap as possible that will run the game well on medium-high settings. I own a AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB that i'm happy to sell to my friend if it is sufficient to play the sims 4 as I plan to upgrade to a GTX760 or similar sometime soon.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've had a go at selecting some parts already, but i'm not sure if what i've picked is overkill / decent stuff! Here's what i'm looking at at the moment:

$700 or $1000? You shouldn't spend any on a SSD. Get a better PSU.

I would want an i5 rather then an i3, dont know the specs on the Sims but i would expect them to use 4 cores, to make that change i dropped the SSD, for this price its hard to get everything, changed the 760 for a 280, save 20 and same performance (280 might be a little better http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-4.html)

That gives a bigger monitor so you can see your little sims, and keeps you under $900. Did you want to spend less?

Thanks for the replies guys,

Ill take out the SSD if its not really worth it. With the graphics card, what sort of value would you put on a used amd HD6850? If it wasn't clear in the original post I was planning on buying a new card for myself and giving my friend my old 6850 and paying the difference, if its going to be good enough to play the sims.

As for the monitor, she's used to a MacBook screen size so I think a 21-22 inch monitor will be fine

Yes you can remove th SSD as it is useless when you an OS will take up about 30GB. The used card is worth about $90.
