My computer has randomly stopped recognizing any external display connected through HDMI. The windows start up screen will still display on both monitors, but once I get into windows the monitor is not recognized. All drivers say that they are up to date.

The computer is an HP laptop with an Intel i7 processor, and it has both the on board hd4000 graphics and an Nvidia graphics card. Windows 7 is the operating system.

When the computer starts up, the external monitor mirrors the laptop screen. Also, when I start the computer in safe mode, both monitors are mirrored also. When I start the computer in regular mode though, there is no recognition of any other monitors.

Another strange thing is that when I install the updated driver the moniter all of a sudden comes on like it should, until I "restart the computer for all the changes to take effect".

This leads me to believe that it is a driver issue, but I have tried rolling back to older drivers but I still get the same strange behavior.

I even went as far as " factory restoring" my computer and that does not help.
