Hello. I currently have a bad computer (hp model: CQ5604F) and I play a lot of games. The computer has a 250w psu, nVidia geforce 6150se nforce 430 integrated graphics.

Games I play: League of Legends, Path of Exile (cannot currently run it), World of Warcraft.

My question: Regarding LoL and WoW, I get around 18-30 fps on lowest settings and with me having absolutely nothing running. Would buying ANY dedicated graphics card raise my fps? No, I CANNOT upgrade my PSU at the moment. I would be looking to spend < 50$ on a card.

Yes, I realize I could not get any sort of medium-high end card with these specifications, but would ANY possible card increase my fps/performance? If so, what card, and how much fps/performance can I expect to gain?

Thanks a bunch.

Yeah, just about any discrete graphic card will get you a lot better performance.

What is your CPU?

So by upgrading from my integrated graphics to that GTX750, I'd gain over 70 FPS? That sounds wonderful, but it's a little over double what I'd be able to spend. Would you be able to recommend any other cards that would work in my 250w psu, and give me an idea of how much performance I'd gain? Thanks a ton, by the way.

How much better performance do you think? Any suggestions for a 250w psu on a ~50$ budget?

Also, my entire computer-specs are listed here:

Even the gtx750 is supposed to have 350W. All the others will need more. So unless you are willing to upgrade your PSU, I couldn't recommend anything else.

So there are absolutely no dedicated graphics cards I could use with my 250w psu that would increase the fps I get in games, compared to my integrated graphics?

Not without seriously risking burning out the power supply. HP have crappy power supplies.

This saddens me. Not even any older cards? Or am I just SOL?

Older cards used even more power.

Still the same. None use a 250W PSU.

What are you talking about???

This card uses only 30W max.

a 250w is not the ideal psu for upgrading, you can get an nvidia gt 610 but i really not recommend it as its still a low psu. get a cheap 500w or 400w and you will be rocking a gtx 750

I'm talking for the whole PC. Not just the card.

Something like GeForce GT610?

So the card uses very little amounts of psu and the price is very managable, excellent. How much FPS would I be looking to gain from switching to this card from my integrated graphics? And why do you say that I CAN actually upgrade, whereas i7Baby says I cannot upgrade period?

So even a very low-psu card like the GT 610 wouldn't work with a 250w psu? If it would work, what would the performance increase be like?

Because a 610 is the only gpu that i'd say it may run on your system (seen success with previous posts with the same psu). But it's still not guaranteed so upgrading your PSU is your key.

I don't know how much fps increase you will get. We could only guess.

I claim that you can easily power your computer with added GT 610, with that PSU.

You would definitely have an increase in gaming, but it may not satisfy you. If you want to feel relieved with your purchase get a psu and a better card.

@iAboodz - What do you think the chances of success would be, and, if you had to guess, what kind of FPS gain would I be seeing?

@Slobodan-888 - What makes you so sure, compared to the others? And could you go ahead and make an educated guess at the performance increase?

@i7Baby - I completely understand that. The only issue is the PSU-usage and price of the GTX 750.

About performance, I can't.

About power consumption. Because as an electronics engineer, I think that I now a bit more than some IT guys and various "wikipedia experts"...

Any idea how I could find this out? I don't know off-hand, and you probably have a lot more knowledge than I do.

I'd say maybe 30-60% i'm not really sure.
you can know that with cpu Z. and trust me if you can just pay a bit more for a psu and another gpu you would win this

Thanks everyone for the answers. It seems that I could POTENTIALLY run this Geforce 610 on my 250w psu, but the question is, would I gain a noticable FPS increase from doing this? Could any of you just SPECULATE on what I could expect to get with my current system? I would only be looking to buy this in order to gain a performance increase in the games I play, so I'd like at least an idea of the possible increase. (You can use 20 as the base number for the current FPS I get, in terms of upgrading, if need be)

I don't have premium account either. So I don't know. But as you can see, your integrated GPU does not satisfy the minimum requirements while GT 610 does.

A GT610 needs a minimum good quality 300W power supply.

HP do not have good quality power supplies.

Would meeting the minimum requirements suddenly give an increase to FPS? I understand that this card is not good by any means, but it my head, it just seems like ANY kind of dedicated graphics card MUST increase my fps in games by a decent margin. Am I wrong?

Integrated: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+6...

GT 610: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+G...

The difference is huge.

It is still a relatively week card, but compared to the integrated it is a lot more powerful.

If I was you, I would buy it. You have nothing to lose and can only gain. If you are not satisfied with the performance increase, you can return the card and get your money back. I think that in many countries you have something like "no matter what" first 7 day return policy or something like that. And it is a cheap card anyway.

Thank you sir. You've been a massive help, and thanks to everyone else who has replied. I will TRY to update this thread with the results if I remember.

UPDATE: Since I remembered, I decided to go ahead and post an update here, just in case someone comes along from Google or something and has the same problem. I ended up going with the Radeon 6450 HD, with my 250w psu and it works perfectly. I can now play Diablo 3, Path of Exile, among other games which I could not before, along with FPS gains of 20-30 in some games I could already play, E.G: League. If you're in a similiar scenario, I HIGHLY recommend going ahead and upgrading until you can afford your monster computer.
