Motherboard and hard drive replace or format?

Hello

I want to upgrade to an i7 processor to max my graphics cards performance and play all the latest games and to be ready for the next elder scrolls game. So I need to change my motherboard as my system is AMD and I want to wipe my hard drive so it was like when I got it, in meaning when I turned on the pc it asked where I wanted to boot the OS from. The wipe is so I can install all my drivers on a clean slate including windows 8. I currently have windows 7. I was thinking of wiping it or just getting an ssd and a 2TB HDD I that's simpler.

Thanks

wiping the drives is easy enough... just boot off the windows disk. enter the install setup. and wipe the drives and there partitions, this will turn all the drives you do it to into raw, then create a primary partition and install windows to the drive you want. when the pc reboots and runs you will have a windows install and a lot of raw disk space that will need repartitioning to be used as you want.(you can repartition the drives from inside the windows install menu also if you want, while you create the first partition i described earlier)

adding the ssd wont do any harm, that way you can boot your apps fast and each of your hdds could be a single partition drive. this will make the drives more responsive 2 (assuming you dont allow windows to turn them off to save power).

So what your saying is that when i get windows 8 and put the disc in it will ask if i want to format my hard drive before installing? Then after that i would switch out my motherboard and cpu after its installed and windows 8 is in its raw form? Its just i want to be able to just put the disc it and do a complete redo of my computer. it sound very complicated to me.
Well i thought putting a pc together was hard, i made this on for my 20th birthday.

So your saying put the disc in, it will ask if i want to format my drive, then install, then would is switch out my stuff or would that confuse the new OS.

Sorry but i find this all complicated.

not quite mate. you boot off the disk and you should seee an option to upgrade or fresh install. pick fresh install(install now) from there you will get access to the system storage menu.
the only stuff you will be able to copy over is your data, save games, photos music and so on. all the apps you remove will have to be installed again (or you can use the ssd migrate software) and then you put your data in the appropriate folders.

Ye but if i install the OS first and then switch out my motherboard it will think i have gave my hard drive to someone else. There must be something hardwired in to stop people selling people Microsoft operating system.

I'm thinking of just getting an ssd, 2tb hard drive and start again. As i will be basically ripping out the main components.

If you swap the motherboard, a full reinstall is recommended. Often required.
