Graphics Card
VisionTek-ATI-Radeon-HD-5570-900345-1-GB-DDR3-SDRAM-PCI-Express-x16

no overclocking

AMD Catalyst Driver Version, and Driver History
8.0.915.0

Operating System
Windows7 Home Premium 64-bit; Service Pack 1
Dual Boot with Ubuntu 12.04 Grub version 1.99.21ubuntu3.14

Issue Details
When Installing the card and restrating I get a black screen in BIOS, the PC will boot into Windows or Ubuntu and will also have a blank/black screen. I can not switch back to the onboard graphics unless I remove the card and restart. I tried to disable the onboard graphics in BIOS but this option is greyed out for me. The card was tested and found to be working. I only have the one PCIe slot, so cant switch to another to check. I would like to add, the fan IS working when I boot into this Black/Blank Screen.

Motherboard or System Make & Model
Acer Aspire X3400G

Power Supply
Power supply is stock, 220 watts + 80 Bronze, but have seen plenty of results where this card runs fine with stock power supply.

Display Device and Connection Used
Acer P215H with onboard graphics I use VGA, with Radeon card I use DVI, and the splitter is ATI FireMV 2400 VHDCI to Dual DVI Splitter Cable 6110020400G

Applications and Games
The whole reason of this card upgrade is to play ArcheAge.

CPU Details
AMD Athlon II X2 255 Processor 3.10 GHz

no overclocking

Motherboard BIOS Version
v02.66 There is a upgarde to BIOS on Acer's website, though I was not able to flash it.

System Memory
8 GB RAM

Additional Hardware
100% stock besides this card, I only have 1 PCIe slot, stock card is Nvidia 9200 (garbage)

I have seen many posts online about this black/blank screenissue, but never a solution that works for me. Ive scoured the interwebz for 2+ days trying this and that, but nothing. Being I am not even getting a screen in BIOS I am thinking maybe I have the wrong splitter type? Any help you guys can give me is appiciated, I have reached the end of the road so to speak. Being somewhat tech savvy, I am at a loss here. I can tear apart a smartphone, compile AOSP Android, even do development in Android (part of Team SlimROMs), but cant change a simple video card!

thanks in advance

Despite your thoughts on the power consumption, I believe your issue to be the power supply.

1) Test the card in another (a friend's) computer with a better power supply; just to verify the card is functional.
2) Check your motherboard specifications. Make sure there isn't a 25watt limitation on the PCI-Ex16 slot.

If the card works in another computer and your motherboard does not have a 25watt limitation, then the likely culprit is your power supply.

Thank you for your reply,

I took the card and dropped it into my kids PC, its a HP with 250 WATT PSU. Long story short, same black/blank screen. In my searches there are 2 variants of this card, a digital model #900345 and a analog model #900366. Unfortunately there is no model number on the card and Googling all the numbers leads me nowhere. The HP has a DVI out with the onboard, so I was able to test my DVI cable, passed. Also Im not sure if you looked at the splitter I was told I needed to buy, it is a 2 way splitter. the one the card comes with is a 4 way splitter, could this be a problem, and maybe I have the analog model?

Sorry. I missed the part about the splitter. Is this your card (or one similar)? If so, is there a sticker just below the cooling fan that starts with 5570? If so, do the characters following read, "VHVGAGX" (VGA/Analog version) or "VHD1GGX" (Digital/DVI version)?

If the sticker isn't there, then also, just below the cooling fan, you should see, printed on the PCB, "ROHS" and a revision number. I think 1.0A is the digital version and 1.1A is the analog version. Can you confirm which version you have?

Yes that is the card, the sticker reads... VisionTek 5570 1GB VHD PCIe 5570VHDCI 1G

Under that sticker reads... VC560E8LD3 and RoHS REV:1.0

Judging by your reply, I appear to have the digital one, DVI. So my splitter is correct, only that the card supports 4 screens and my splitter has only connections for 2.

Given that it states "VHD", I would agree that you have the digital/DVI version as well. The only other thing I can think of (other than the power supply), is the cable. Make sure it's a DVI-D Dual-Link cable.

I currently have a DVI-D (single link) 3rd one down. The single link works with the HP's onboard graphics, so I just figured it was good. I'll order a DVI-D Dual Link and report back, thanks again!

will be ordering the new cable online, so will be a few days before I can get back to you.

I got the DVI-D Dual Link cable today, as well as DVI to VGA converters, but no good news. The only thing that still may be wrong is the cable that plugs into the card. It should be a 4 way splitter, as the card supports 4 screens. But I was told to buy a 2 way splitter this model in the ebay link below.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/251627521530?lpid=82

Something I did notice that didnt happen ever before, when plugging the cable in the monitors light tuns from orange to blue, then a few seconds later flashes "No Signal". I have yet to try the HP computer, Im to frustrated I guess, lol.

edit...just tried the HP, nothing. I didnt even get the blue light from monitor like I did with the acer :(

edit2...I contacted the seller (ebay) and explain all we went through, he is sending me another card. will update once the new card arrives.

Well, unless I'm mistaken, if the monitor light goes from orange to blue, that means it is getting a signal. I would think that after it shows the "No Signal" message, the screen would go blank again and the light would then go back to orange. I'm really running out of ideas here.

Right, I thought the same, once it goes from orange to blue it means it reads/sees something. But 2 seconds later, the monitor light is back to orange with a "no signal" showing. There is a difference in the black of the screen, when the light turns blue the black is more defined, when it goes back to orange/no signal the screen is more bland. If I unplug the cable, then plug it back it, I get the same as a fresh boot. also want to add, there are no abnormal beeps when booting. This stupid card is driving me crazy, I appreciate your help here. The guy who sold me the card claims to be sending me another one, though I really dont need a card that supports 4 monitors *sighs*
