Clicking 1TB HD with bad sectors, help please!

I have an external Seagate Goflex hard drive that is clicking. I've tried every fix there is aside from opening it up. I ran it on my laptop with Ubuntu installed and it won't open but does show up in the device manager. It says Drive ok, 1600 bad sectors. I have three years worth of data that I have to get back. With that many bad sectors is it recoverable? Also has anyone had success with replacing the controller board? Thanks.

You are probably gonna have to send it out for recovery, probably to the tune of $500-$1000. Always back up your data.

You are probably right. I might try swapping the platter, I don't have money for data recovery. I've read that you need a "clean room" but that running a shower in bathroom can suffice.

If I had important data, there is no way that I would open the drive, running shower or not!
