16GB Memory stick is only showing a capacity of 428KB. Cannot reallocate storage space to the memory stick.

I am using Windows 8.1 and in Disk Management I have a 14.68GB volume reading "Unallocated" in Removable Drive (F). When I right click on that volume the option for any type of new volume is greyed out. I would very much appreciate it if someone could solve this conundrum- I need my memory stick back! Thank you.

Solution
Does it show with the unallocated space and a small amount allocated?

Might be you just need to extend the volume

If not, did you format it for NTFS or FAT32?

If you've only tried one, then try the other.

If formatting it for NTFS and FAT32 still has the same issue, try a different USB port.

If that still has the same problem, sounds like the memory stick has developed a fault. Ultimate test would be to try it in another PC and if it still has the same issue then yeah, faulty stick

I have sorted out the problem, I just deleted the volume in Disk management and both of the unallocated partitions (66mb and 14.68gb). The two partitions then extended into one and the option for a new simple volume was available to me again. I have now got the full 16gb back! Thanks for all the help
