i5 4690K and a Gigabyte Z97X UD3H. Great combo and you can do some OCing.

If that's over your budget,i5 4590 and Gigabyte GA-H97 Gaming 3.

i5 4690k and the Asus Ranger VII Motherboard. Should cost around £250 ish but the MB is such a good board for the price.

I brought that board about 2 weeks ago with the i7 4790k best upgrade ive ever done

Z97 motherboards are meant for overclokcing.
If you don't know how or don't want to OC,then get an i5 4690 and an AsRock H97 Killer or a Gigabyte GA-H97 Gaming 3.
