Hi all,

I have build myself my first PC. It was a personal project for myself but also to help with my ICT course. I am having an issue with my memory however. I have 8GB (2x4GB) of Corsair Vengeance RAM. These are DDR3 and have a 1600Mhz clock. My motherboard is the Gigabyte 970A-UD3P.

This is the ram that I have

I have also correctly placed the ram into the correct slots for dual channel and I can confirm this as when going into the BIOS for my motherboard it correctly shows the information for channel A.

The issue I am having is that in my BIOS the memory is only running at a clock speed of 1366 (ish). I think I know how to solve this as I can enable X.M.P which makes it run at 1600. However in Windows 8.1 when going into task manager and then performance it is only showing my memory as running at a speed of 667Mhz and also when using CPU-Z it fails to detect the memory as dual channel. DC Mode is blank.

Is this an easy fix or could it just be a bug in windows not displaying the correct speed??

Thank you in advanced for any help you provide.

Tom

You have to double the memory frequency shown in monitoring programs. That goes for all DDR RAM (DDR means Double Data Rate, DDR RAM operates twices per clock cycle, hence the halved frequency).

Wow, thanks for the speedy reply :) . Ok, thanks for the information I understand what you mean. But what about the CPU-Z not recognising the memory being in dual channel? Does this matter that it doesn't pick it up, will the CPU still recognise it??

Jovan93 - did you try updating your BIOS?

I have checked and there is no official update available from Gigabyte so unfortunately I have no update available. I was hoping there would be as my mouse isn't very good in the UEFI BIOS and moves very slowly. I have to move my mouse to the other side of the room before it will move a fraction on screen ;) . Slight exaggeration

Doesn't RAM need to be in different channels to use Dual Channel?
Is your RAM seated in neighbouring slots or is there a slot in between?
Try moving one stick one slot over and check CPU-Z again.

Oh, yes thank you so much. CPU-Z now has Dual in the Channel # column. I misread the manual for my motherboard because it was saying how there is two channels and I though that you had to put them into the same channel. Kind of had a stupid moment as "Dual Channel" it's kind of in the name ;)

Thank you for your help any way :)
