Hello.

I write for a tech/gaming publication and they've recently come to me, asking for me to provide video content for the site.
I am mainly a PC gamer, therefor ease of use and overall quality when recording PC gameplay is most important. That said, I would like to contribute in the way of Wii U content, as well as the other consoles potentially in the future.

All I am looking for is a solid means of recording gameplay, with voice work added in that is easy to use considering I am going into this for the first time. Recording for console comes secondary to the PC side of things.

I've heard good things about Dxtory, as well as the elgato game capture. Outside of that, I really don't know what else I would need and would really appreciate some guidance. I am already good with the needed storage, as well as a proper camera and microphone.

I just need a bit of insight into what I should do about the recording side of things, along with whatever else I may need that I didn't cover above.

So yeah, any advice would be great. Being the site is covering the expenses, I would like to keep the price as low as possible, though I want a solid setup to suit my needs.

You have a few choices (these will record both PC and console through HDMI)
1- Elgato HD60 (http://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD-60/dp/B00MMN0N14) This one is external.

2- AVerMedia Live Gamer HD (http://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Recorder--C985-Capture-Stream/dp/B007UXJ6LE/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1409262100&sr=1-1&keywords=live+gamer+hd) This one is internal.

3- AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable (http://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Capture-Xbox360-60Mbps/dp/B00B2IZ3B0/ref=pd_sim_e_33?ie=UTF8&refRID=1ZGGE0511KD34HWWFVCH) This one is external.

These all record at 60 FPS and all record through HDMI. Personally I would go with the Elgato HD60 because it comes with software needed to record and even stream. It also...

It also has a built in live commentary function. Do you already have a computer to record with? Or are you going to be getting a new one/ upgrading it?

Yeah. I'm running a 680/2570k. The site's even providing an upgrade come early next year as well.
As for the elgato, as I've said, heard pretty much nothing but good things. Does it provide anything substantially superior to what I can get on the software side, such as the aforementioned dxtory?

Well for one thing it saves in much much smaller files and the new one allows you to make a commentary and have an overlay and face cam all at once without having to do any editing

If that's the case, then that seems the smart way to go. So, with the Elgato and everyting else I already have, I would be pretty much set at this point?

Wait I forgot to mention that the Elgato records through HDMI so you need to have a computer and a monitor that supports HDMI. But besides that you're golden
