Hi,

Need to build a system for my dad who's still running XP.

I'd prefer Win 7 for him. Could you please tell me if this build is suitable and where I could potentially save (CPU & Mobo?). Would like to pay $350 top....

CPU: Intel Pentium G3220 3.0GHz Dual-Core Processor ($59.99 @ NCIX)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($114.99 @ NCIX)
Memory: G.Skill Value Series 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($39.99 @ Canada Computers)
Storage: Western Digital WD Blue 500GB 2.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($52.25 @ Vuugo)
Case: Apex PC-375 ATX Mid Tower Case w/300W Power Supply ($39.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($19.95 @ Vuugo)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($99.79 @ DirectCanada)
Total: $426.95

Only for office work...
Thanks,

Go to a retail store and buy a desktop. Chances are you will get more memory, more storage, and a warranty.

As for your build. That is a crazy motherboard for an office build. They can be had for as little as $40. Memory is not ideal. I would actually trust an OEM power supply over something from Apex.
