SSD in RAW format

I have purchased the Samsung SSD 840 PRO 256GB and I ran into something peculiar... I plugged it in and tried to load a fresh copy of Windows 7 on it but I was given the warning it was in RAW format. Odd.

I tried to quick format but it warned me that it failed. I installed Windows 7 on my storage drive just to see if I could figure out the problem while getting my computer up and running so I could use it for work.

I spent two weeks trying various ways to get the drive to work including working with Samsung tech support. I gave up and sent the drive to be replaced. I received the second drive and not only is this one RAW, it will briefly disappear off of Disk Management after any attempt to format it or clone to it, etc.

Do you have any idea of what might be wrong?

I do have all of the latest drivers from the manufacturers of my hardware.
Specs off the top of my head:
AMD 8k series CPU @ 3.5 GHz
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 MoBo
16Gigs RipJaw DDR3
650W Powersupply
EVGA GTX 650 TI BOOST graphics
1TB WD 7200rpm HHD

Solution
1) Find someone to help you who knows more than I do
2) Get a new mobo
3) Contact Asus.

My number 1 would have been to use other ports, as most of the mobos I know of have ports from the "northbridge" and ports from an add-in chip, but yours doesn't.
Those two should work together so _something_ is broken. Perhaps run manufacturer diagnostics? But you've gone beyond what I can help with.

The default was AHCI. I put it in a friend's computer and was able to format it. I put it back in my computer and it was able to read it as NTFS. I tried to clone my C: drive to it and it disappeared again. I then tried to install the OS on it from scratch and it told me to check BIOS because it wasn't set as a bootable device. I changed it to the main bootable device and tried to install the OS again this time it just errored out.

What can I do if it is a Controller issue?

I have run a diagnostic from ASUS and I have also used all of the sata ports except the one for the DVD-ROM and all the same story. Funny thing is in the BIOS it does have an option for southbridge but I don't mess with things I don't know what they do. I'll try to contact someone else in another thread specifically for it. I'm also highly considering a new MoBo because I'm starting to have issues with it saying the CPU fan isn't spinning when it definitely is. I did go on the cheap end with this one to where the I/O plate didn't fit.

Thank you. :)
