Can I use a video card instead of buying converter for Eyfinity 3 monitor setup?

I am trying to setup a triple monitor Eyefinity setup for gaming

My main video card is a XFX Core Edition FX-787A-CNFC Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition

The other card I have, is a Zotac gt520

I want my 7870 to do all the processing, and just use the gt520 as an onboard adapter. It has 1 vga, and 1 hdmi, it also has a dvi port "I do not have any dvi cables."

I'm really just asking this, because I don't want to buy anything else, and just use what I have to make it work. Also, I currently have it as a dual monitor setup, it works, but in the Catalyst Control center there is no option for eyefinity.

Thank you for taking your time to help me, I really appreciate it.

I do not believe you can do what you are asking and if there was a way I wouldn't recommend it. The two completely different cards would give you all sorts of strange issues if you did some how make it work.

Why can't you accomplish what you are trying to do with your 7870? It has two DVI outputs, HDMI, and two displayports. With the appropriate adapters you should be able to connect your three monitors. Also I don't believe eyefinity is something you turn on, it's just a name that was given which states the cards can run multiple displays.

Thank you for explaining that, one last question- The two dvi adapters I need, are they the $30 active ones, or just a dvi to hdmi cables?

You should be fine with getting a simple adapter, the only time you need an active adapter is if your using multiple display ports. I don't fully understand it I can't find a clear answer online, it seems it comes down to several variables involving eyefinity and display ports, but if your using the DVI and HDMI ports on your graphics card I believe you will be fine without.

For anyone else looking for a solution to this, there's a software Soft TH, SoftTH works by rendering the whole scene on one display adapter, which then gets split into multiple parts to be displayed on each monitor. While it is technically possible to use it on an AGP/PCI card, only PCI Express has the required bandwidth to get good framerates.

I don't know if it has malware, or anything bad or not, so be cautious, but I think it's legit, still, be cautious.
