Alright, so my daughter broke my laptop-stepped on the screen:??: . and Instead of putting the money towards a new screen I was just going to build a new desktop since I don't normally take it anywhere. The other day I was at a local micro center and came up with this build. I was wondering if anyone had any advice of whether I should keep it or change a few parts around. I was going to get rid of my xbox one and start gaming on a computer as well. I know it is expensive at first but over time it becomes cheaper.m I will be using it as a main computer as well as a gaming and media machine. Later on I will add an SSD. I am not sure when new computer parts are coming out. I did do research and know that the I5 hasn't been out too terribly long. I just don't want to build it and 2 months later new parts come out lol. thanks in advance

The build consists of a
I5-4690k processor
AsRock Z97 Extreme Motherboard
1TB western digital hard drive
8 GB of DDR3 Kingtston hyper x
Sapphire r9 280x 3gb
Sideon cooler master water cooler
Corsair 750 watt power supply
Corsair carbide series spec 002 case

The build looks amazing.
However,I would change the PSU,as the Corsair CX series of PSUs are low quality.Something like an Antec HCG 620M,XFX Core 650W or Seasonic M12II 620W are much better quality and will definitely get the job done.
Other than that, the build looks pretty good.
All the best. ;)

Try an AMD build usually the processors are alot better in pricing go on pcpartpicker.com and plan it out. I would recommend an AMD 8core or 6core they overclock nicley and they work just as good as the i5 even when not overclocking, the extra money you save you can get a small SSD and put your OS on it, it will run so much faster

AMD isn't faster than an i5 in gaming. He stated that he's going to use the PC for gaming,so the i5 is the way to go. ;)

Seasonic is very good, i agree but also some Corsair PSUs are built by Seasonic, I am fine with corsair as long as you get a Platinum rated one or at least Gold.

He doesn't need a Platinum PSU for his build. They are way to overkill and way to expensive.

At my micro center which is in Kansas they don't have Seasonic psu's. I can choose from evga, antec, cooler master, thermaltake, ocz, and some other brands I have never heard of. I know amds are a little cheaper and can overclock but isn't it true that lets just use the fx 6300 for example. it only has 3 physical cores right? and six threads?? anyway what about this PSU http://www.microcenter.com/product/433612/SuperNOVA_750...

FX-6300 can't match the i5 4690K by any means.
That PSU is good, but I would get this one,it's Tier Two Class A:

Well the only 2 reasons would be I hate paying for shipping, I'm the type that hates waiting and micro center usually price matches newegg if they have the product in Stock I think I will go with the thermaltake gold . I won't be crossfiring the r9 280x soon. But while I'm here why does the 280x say it requires a 750 watt psu?

Watts is not the most important factor for a GPU, amperage is. A good quality 650W power supply will push any single GPU available including a 780 ti or R9 290.

The reason I asked was on the box of my sapphire r9 280x, it says I should use a minimum of a 750 watt power supply for a single card and a 1000 watt for 2 cards. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168..... And to me it didn't makes since since I know the r9 280x is only a rebranded 7970, and the 7970s requirements weren't event that high
