I am planning to upgrade to a new PSU very soon and I am very confused about the parameters which matter in real time and not on paper.

Is it the total wattage supply, voltage on +12V rail or efficiency? What to look for when buying a new PSU.

My specs are:-
AMD FX 8350
GTX 660
Single 7200 rpm HDD
4 x 120mm LED fans
2 x 4 GB RAM

I am planning to go with a 650W supply and have narrowed my search to these two supplies:-

i) Antec VP650P

ii)Corsair VS 650

Are they good enough for my current configuration? Will they suffice if I plan to overclock? And which of the two shall I go for? (Corsair one is about $10 cheaper than the Antec)

Thank you very much for your time.

Of those two, I'd go for whichever is cheaper. They are both entry level PSUs. What is your budget and in what currency? Maybe I can help find a deal on a higher end unit.
How to Choose the Perfect Power Supply
Possibly one of the most common asked questions on this forum, how to select a power supply. When choosing a power supply the following points need to be considered. 1. Watts 2. Amps on the +12v rail(s) 3. Quality of the PSU 4. What... See full content

When it comes to buying PSU, there are many factors to be considered:

1. Total Watts requirement of the PC. Add 100-150Watts to that requirement to have headroom.

2. What is the efficiency of the PSU? Always try to find a PSU with 80+ certification which is a good indicator of its efficiency. Minimum 80+ Bronze is recommended.

3. How many Amps on +12v rail? This does matter. Depending upon the graphics card you have, always make sure that your PSU has required Amps on its +12v rail. Like 780Ti requires 42Amps, so PSU must have 42+Amps on the +12v rial.

4. Tier categories have been made to help user make better decisions based on the quality of the components being used in the PSU. Always buy the PSU with good components in it particularly one which has Japanese Capacitors.

5. Always check the review of the PSU under consideration to help make better decision.

I won't recommend either of two PSUs.

Better grab Seasonic PSU. 550W is more than plenty for your needs.

I have a flexible budget but I presumed 650W would be enough for my setup. The currency is INR.

Thanks a bunch.

650W will be more than enough for your system.
Antec HCG 520M is a good choice for a PSU.

Thanks.
Why wouldn't you? I mean what are the factors? Build quality? Durability?
